HOA

Several people have asked me about my opinion of the HOA.  Apparently there are residents here who believe I am against what the HOA stands for.  This is untrue.

I am looking for support to get back onto the Board for one simple reason.  It appears to me that PCC260 is sliding into hell in a hand-basket.  That has to be reversed, fast and with some difficult and probably unpopular decisions ahead.

In conversing with people who are a part of the HOA, it seems to me that you are noticing that PCC260 is sliding into hell in a hand-basket and that this needs to be reversed. Seems like a pretty similar opinion.

It bothers me that the HOA exists.  To clarify that, it seems to me that IF the current Board and Management were doing their jobs correctly there would be no need for an HOA.  There will always be some people who find fault with a Board and Management even if they were superstars.  However, when a group as large as the HOA materializes, something is wrong with the current Board and Management.

We don't need a split community.  We need to have a strong and united Board who are prepared to make the tough decisions to make PCC260 the Ritz Towers again.  I don't take sides.  I simply voice my opinion and fight for what I believe is right.

Have I ever voiced a negative opinion of the HOA?  Yes.  My biggest complaint is the newsletter.  The editors don't tell you what is fact and what is opinion.  I welcome a factual newsletter anytime.  I welcome opinions other than mine as well.  But the community should know which is which.

In the end, though, I think that we all agree that something has to happen to reverse the slide of what was a proud and exclusive community to its current state of seeming like a cheap rental.

Domestic Hot Water

Is anyone else having a problem getting warm enough and healthy domestic hot water coming through your taps?   In my unit the hot water meets neither standard.  It is:

• Lower than that recommended by dishwasher detergent manufacturers as the minimum to cause their detergents to work to clean dishes and kill bacteria.

• So low that a hot shower or a hot bath is impossible.  Just a very unsatisfying "lukewarm."

• Of the exact temperature that breeds bacteria such as that which causes legionnaires disease.

 I have written to the Board on this very serious safety concern but have never received an answer.  I wonder why not.

Common Element or Maintenance Fees were frozen at a 0% increase this year, based on energy costs going DOWN!  This, of course, is utter nonsense.  The law of the land dictates that energy costs will continue to significantly increase over the next two decades because of recent government decisions.  

I am wondering if our domestic hot water temperature is not being lowered to dangerous levels to "save" energy at the potential cost of our health.  I don't know whether this is true or not but the decrease in the temperature and the silence on the matter by the Board puzzles me.

Welcome to my PCC260 Chat Blogsite.  My name is Aivars Kakis and I am running for a position on the Board of Directors at the 2014 Annual General Meeting.

 My interest in running arises in protecting and growing the PCC260 asset for those of us who have invested in it.  It should be a wonderful community to live in – truly a hidden jewel in Brampton.  It has deteriorated of late much to my consternation.  This diamond needs polishing.  This will require difficult and frequently unpopular decisions.  I am not putting myself up for re-election to be popular.  Serious re-polishing requires hard work.  I propose to do that for all of us.

You are all welcome to join in discussions on this Blog.  There are strict rules though;

• No personal name calling or attacks

• Respect for comments that others may make, whether you agree with them or not.

I will remove and block violators.  Different views make us all learn but it has to be done with respect.
